The Federal Election
The Sex Party is registered under BC legislation, not federal. To officially run candidates in the national election requires registration under federal law, and this must occur sixty days before the election is called. The Sex Party executive was in the early stages of getting federal registration when the federal election was called in later November. Hence we will not be running federal candidates this time.
But a minoirity government is expected and that makes another election likely in the not too distant future. We still intend to obtain federal registration. January 13-15 we will be holding a registration drive at the annual sex show at Canada Place in Vancouver produced by Canwest Shows. We need to recruit 250 members to be eligible for registration. Please drop by and register.
We intend to be involved in the federal election even though we are not registered. Check out our federal platform. If you attend all candidates meetings or write letters to the editor, please raise one or more of these issues.
The Sex Party in the Media
Check out the Dec 15, 2005 cover feature story in the Vancouver weekly The Georgia Strait on Sex Party leader John Ince. See also his op-ed piece in the National Post Dec 16, 2005.
The Tattler
Check out our most recent issue of the online journal. This is the only regular journal devoted to sexual/political issues that we know of.
If you know of a story that we should cover, please advise. We have reporters ready to probe interesting sexual controversies. If you want to contribute a story, send us a brief outline. We are especially interested in original reporting.
Court Challenges Program
Three students at the UBC law school are assisting us with our litigation. The Sex Party's writ against Canada Post will be filed before the end of the year in Federal Court.
Sexosophers' Café
We held our first Sexosophers' Café at The Grind Café at Main and 25th November 20. It was a memorable evening. Our next is Jan 22 at the Grind Cafe and 25th and Main in Vancouver, and the subject is: "Is good porn possible? What is good porn?" Hope to see you there.
